Hear Ye, Hear Ye!!

MLS Philadelphia is set to make another important announcement.  The new franchise is expected to unveil the team’s name, colors, and logo Monday, May 11.

The ceremony will take place at City Hall (15th and Market) at 11:30AM.  Mayor Michael Nutter may or may not show off some Beckham-like ball skills depending on how his hip is feeling.  Don’t miss it!

Those diehard, hardcore, one of a kind supporters — the SoBs — will be in attendance after a little pre-partying at McGillin’s.  Feel free to join the lads if you favor a little Guinness breakfast (first pint at 9am).

Everton FC To Take On MLS All-Stars

No more fish and chips!!

No more fish and chips!!

English Premier League squad and finalist for the 2009 FA Cup, Everton FC, will canoe across the ole pond this summer to take on the MLS All-Star team.

The July 29th match in Sandy, Utah — home to current Western Conference third place club Real Salt Lake — will be the sixth match between the MLS elite and an international opponent.  MLS All-Stars hold sway at the moment with a 5-0 record in international competition.  Everton FC will look to break the streak with the help of former MLS star and current U.S. National Team goalkeeper, Tim Howard.

The match is slated to air on ESPN2.

“are you ready for some…” soccer?!

Okay… so Hank Williams Jr. probably isn’t going to be heard belting lyrics through his trademark beard, but excitement is still in the air tonight as the 2009 MLS season kicks off at Seattle’s Qwest Field.
Philadelphia soccer fans will glimpse their future as Seattle Sounders FC, the league’s 15th franchise, make their debut against those Red Bulls of New York.
The match gets under way at 9pmEST, and can be seen on ESPN2.

Can I Interest You In A ‘Timeshare?’

David Beckham has gotten what he wanted… well, close to it anyway.  The England star has reached a deal between current loan squad, AC Milan and LA Galaxy that will allow him to remain in Italy through the remainder of the summer.

Becks will return to the U.S. to join up with his Galaxy teammates after the conclusion of the Serie A season.

The ‘timeshare’ deal came at a cost — nearly £2 million — a sum Beckham will pay personally.  He must really like the pizza over there… hey, can you blame him?  They invented it.

Oy! That's-a-one spicy meatball!!

AC Milan Ups the Ante For Becks

Recent reports indicate officials from AC Milan have flown to LA to discuss the permanent transfer of David Beckham.
The Italian club has expressed their interest with an apparent offer of 5 million quid, but LA has requested upwards of 12 million.  A deal, if any, may be struck by as next week.

Beckham’s current loan to Milan will come to an end on March 9th.  A permanent transfer must be reached before that deadline. For slightly more indepth information on this development check out this article from ESPN soccernet.
